Real Racer’s real-time video feed is transmitted over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Many devices we encounter day to day such as anything using Bluetooth, cordless phones and most other wireless devices use the same 2.4GHz spectrum. This results in a considerable amount of radio frequency interference. The more interference present in an environment, the more trouble a device will have transmitting data.
With Real Racer we have developed a proprietary error correction system to minimize the negative effects of radio interference, however in certain environments with considerable radio interference it may still lead to some video glitches. If you are having issues with this, it may be helpful to change the Wi-Fi channel. Real Racer by default will attempt to automatically select the best channel but you can override this behavior as follows:
- Determine which 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel 1-11 is the least congested in your environment. See here for a great tutorial: https://eyenetworks.no/en/locating-good-channels-bad-neighbors-wi-fi-scanner/
- Turn on your Real Racer and connect to it with the Android or iOS app. Navigate to Settings – Wi-Fi. You’ll see an option entitled Wi-Fi Channel.
- Tap the Wi-Fi Channel option and then select the optimal 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel found in step 1. You’ll be instructed to power your Real Racer off and then back on again, and re-connect.
- Hopefully you’ll now be encountering less video glitches.
