If you’ve downloaded the Real Racer app onto your iOS or Android device but are unable to get the app connected to your Real Racer car:
Step 1: Turn on both the car and controller. Are you able to move the Real Racer using the controller (i.e. do the wheels on the car move in response to you moving the steering wheel or throttle lever on the controller)?
YES – move to next step.
NO – The car’s wheels are moving left and right continuously but the car does not respond to controller inputs.
This means that the LiPo battery inside the car has run out of power. Remove the LiPo battery and charge it fully before trying again.
NO – The car’s wheels do not move at all.
If the controller has red LEDs lit up to indicate that it is turned on, yet you’re unable to control the car, then it’s likely that the car has not been able to power on. First ensure that you have moved the power switch on the car to the ON position, and if that does not help, try removing the LiPo battery from the car and fully charging it with the provided USB battery charger. If after all this you’re still unable to get the car to respond to inputs from the controller, then please get in touch with our technical support staff for further assistance.
Step 2: Check to see if your phone can see the Wi-Fi network created by Real Racer.
When Real Racer is powered on, it creates its own Wi-Fi access point which by default will be named KOBOTIX_XXX, where the XXX will be unique to your car. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your iOS or Android device and see if you can see any network with a name that begins with “KOBOTIX_” as follows:
iOS Wi-Fi Settings
Android Wi-Fi Settings
Do you see any network with a name that begins with “KOBOTIX_” as shown by the blue outline in the images above?
YES – move to next step.
NO – Your phone is unable to detect the Wi-Fi network created by Real Racer.
Please try turning Wi-Fi OFF on your phone, wait 5 seconds, then turn Wi-Fi back ON. If you are in an environment with a lot of wireless interference, this may interfere with the Wi-Fi network detection process and you may need to repeat this step a few times before your phone successfully detects the network.
If your phone is eventually able to detect the “KOBOTIX_” Wi-Fi network, then return to the Real Racer app and try connecting again. If however after several attempts your phone is still unable to detect the network, then please get in touch with our technical support staff for further assistance.
Step 3: Ensure that you have installed the latest version of the Real Racer app and the latest version of iOS/Android available for your phone.
Real Racer will work best when everything is up-to-date. If you’re running the latest iOS/Android version available for your phone, have verified that there are no further updates available for the Real Racer app on the App Store/Play Store and you’ve confirmed that your phone is able to detect the “KOBOTIX_” Wi-Fi network, then your connectivity issue will require further troubleshooting. Please get in touch with our technical support staff for further assistance.
